Multilingualism Maps at International School Utrecht

At the International School Utrecht we use multilingual mapping as a way to help students acquire new vocabulary. This is of course, also a wonderful way, of showing our respect for all languages.

In Grade 3 the students have been inquiring into Space. The students have discussed such varied topics as the solar system, the force of gravity, space travel over the years and the day/night cycle.  Along the way they have learned a great deal of unit-related vocabulary. Terms such as gravity, orbit, axis and galaxy may be new to some students and as a way of connecting these words to their prior knowledge we incorporated a lesson using multilingual mapping.
