Unit on decision making and government led to new student council

In the first Unit of Inquiry this school year, the grade 5 students learned about decision making and government. As part of this unit, they wrote campaign speeches to share their ideas for how we could make our school even better and why they felt they would be a good Student Council candidate. Now the PYP Student Council has been chosen! We are so excited to see what will be accomplished this year!

When students were chosen for Student Council, it was because the other students agreed that they have leadership skills and good ideas for our school. There were candidates that were close to getting the number of votes and we are sure that they can support the student council with putting the plans in place.

We have seen this year’s student council group already taking amazing initiative. With the festive season upon us, the student council members wanted to collect food for the food bank. We hope that the International School Utrecht Community will rally together to make it a successful food drive.

Let us introduce you to the 2022-2023 Student Council members:

Yiannis

Hello, my name is Yiannis, elected in the student council with 10 and most votes. I am in grade 5 white. I am the treasurer, and I am also looking for a second job because I want to work more. I’m looking forward to changing the football timetable.

Graham

Hello, my name is Graham, and I am in grade 5 white. In the student council I work on technology and creativity. I would like to change some things in school like the hooks and bathrooms.

Zeynep

Hi, I am Zeynep. I am in Grade 5 white. I am really happy to be in the student council. I am so excited in every single meeting because I get to share my ideas and my friends’ ideas. Our school can be improved in many ways, for example, my best idea is to make school teams for sports, but currently we are working on the food drive. Lastly, I would like to say that as the student council we would like to help you.

Ria

Hello, my name is Ria and I am the communicator and spokesperson of the student council. I wanted to be in the student council because, I have been in this school for 7 years now, and through the years I have seen a few things that can be improved in our school. I am very, very honoured that I can help solve these problems. It has been a total dream come true to be in the spectacular student council!

Anshita

Hello, my name is Anshita and I am president of the student council. I love being in the student council because I get many opportunities to help our school as well as everybody in it. ISUtrecht means a lot to me because I have been in it for as long as I can remember. Being president allows me to show my leadership and organizational skills and I love it!

Vishwak

Hello, my name is Vishwak. I am in Grade 5 Red and my role in the student council is the PYP treasurer. I wanted to be part of the student council because I saw some problems around the school, and I think that my point of view would help to solve them!

Mihir

My name is Mihir. I’m in grade 5 Blue. Being apart of the student council for me is important because I want to help the school, as I have been here since KG.

I look forward to representing the students of the PYP and listening to the ideas that everyone has for the school.

Aden

My name is Aden. I am excited to be a part of the student’s council because I want to make a positive impact in the school. I look forward to representing the students of the PYP and listening to the ideas that everyone has for the school.

Anastasia

My name is Anastasia. I am excited to be a part of the student’s council because I really like to help others and show my ideas. I look forward to representing the students of the PYP.
